Morning
Prayer:
8:30am
Monday thru Friday in the sanctuary
Morning
Prayer is an ancient Christian discipline rooted in the monastic
tradition of observing eight daily offices (or prayer services):
Matins, Lauds, Prime, Terce, Sext, None, Vespers, and Compline.
Matins and Lauds were the two morning offices. Prime was the
noon office. Terce, Sext, and None were the afternoon offices.
Vespers, Compline were the evening offices.
Since
the Reformation Anglicans have generally observed two and
in some places three daily prayer times; Morning Prayer (a
combination of the two monastic morning offices), noonday
prayer (based on the monastic office of Prime), and Evening
Prayer (a blending of the two evening offices).
One
of the distinctive aspects of Anglican Christianity is the
belief that daily corporate worship and the daily corporate
reading and hearing of God's Word are essential to the overall
health of the Church. Through them God speaks to and guides
the believing community as a whole while creating and forming
spiritual bonds and connections between his people.
Morning
and Evening Prayer services can serve as a daily source of
nourishment, conviction, and inspiration not only to clergy,
but also to all believers. The daily office can never replace
a believer's personal daily devotions and Bible study, but
it can and should compliment your personal walk with Jesus
Christ.
At
Good Shepherd, each Morning Prayer service includes:
A general confession of sin
Several songs of praise and thanksgiving (usually
said rather than sung)
A Psalm
Three fairly extensive readings from the Bible
(an Old Testament reading,
a New Testament reading, and a reading
from one of the Gospels)
Time for discussion of the readings
Time to pray silently or aloud for personal needs.
Morning
Prayer at Good Shepherd begins at 8:30am five days a week,
Monday thru Friday. The service lasts approximately thirty
minutes. Everyone is welcome and guests are expected. If you
have any questions please contact
