Getting Through Leviticus and Numbers (5/3/07)

It figures that the first week of our 365 day walk through the bible should start off in Leviticus on Sunday and end in one of the more, well, tedious sections of Numbers by Saturday. The Old Testament can take some time getting used too, but it is worth it. The books of Leviticus and Numbers are part of the “Pentateuch” or the “five books” written by Moses. By the time Jesus was born, the Pentateuch was referred to simply as “the Law” because these books contain the laws and regulations that God gave to Moses on Mount Sinai . There were more than ten. In fact, there were 613 in all depending on how you count them.

A Letter to the Church Regarding the Press & Sun Article (3/23/07)

The article seems to suggest that Good Shepherd does not welcome homosexual people and because we do not welcome homosexual people we are shrinking.Nothing could be further from the truth. We welcome and accept all people. Welcoming and accepting all people, however, does not necessarily mean that we must approve of everything that people do. Anne and I love each other very much but that love does not mean that I must always love what Anne does or vice versa. In fact, love sometimes means intervening to prevent someone from behaving in self-destructive ways.

What Does the Church Do? (1/5/07)

churches that forget or neglect this great commission often do so because they turn inward. They begin to speak and think of the church in terms of ownership. “This is my church” or “This is our church” people will say and they will begin to see evangelism as a threat to normalcy. And it is. When new believers come into the Kingdom, they bring lots of chaos with them. It makes a church a wild and often unruly place to be. But that is a good thing. It is a sign of new life.

Resolution of the Vestry of the Church of the Good Shepherd

...Resolved that the Vestry, Wardens, and Rector of the Church of the Good Shepherd, on behalf of the Church of the Good Shepherd, intend to seek affiliation with and submit to full episcopal oversight from an orthodox Anglican province in communion with the See of Canterbury subsequent to adequate communication with members of the congregation...

Letter to the People of the Church of the Good Shepherd

...God has prepared us over the last three years for these crucial days in the life of this parish. We've faced some very difficult times together. God has never abandoned us but always protected us and provided for us in every circumstance. Nor, have we abandoned each other. We've become a family. We've stood together and committed ourselves to Jesus Christ and to his Word. And Jesus has built us up in numbers, in strength, and in devotion. I believe that we have been called together for just this time to stand firm for the truth of the gospel of Christ. So let us stand...

The Bible: Is it Really Open to Many Interpretations?(9/22/06)

...though inspired and superintended by God, the bible, like every other book, was written by human writers and those writers intended to communicate specific content. There is then no reason to set the bible aside in some special category. If the bible is indecipherable, unknowable, and/or meaningless, then all literature, all speech, is equally indecipherable, unknowable and/or meaningless....

Blessings & Trends at Good Shepherd (10/20/06)

Good Shepherd is doing incredibly well numerically, financially and above all, spiritually. I am so very encouraged by the growth and enthusiasm on Sunday morning and I have no doubt that our best days lie ahead.

Question and Answer: Should My Kids go to Church? (9/14/06)

....During the sixties and seventies the conventional wisdom was that parents ought to let children make their own personal decisions regarding matters of faith. A common sentiment was, “If your child decides not to go to church, don't require him to do so. If you do you might hinder his personal faith journey.” One problem with this idea (aside from the fact that it is manifestly unbiblical) is that children simply don't have the life-experience or wisdom to make such decisions. That's why God made parents....

Becoming a Spiritual Warrior (9/8/06) by Bill Lane

If you are a follower of Christ, you will experience spiritual warfare and you will struggle with sin. These are facts we can't get around, no matter how much we try. When we experience spiritual warfare what should we do, how should we respond?

God's Unchanging Nature and our Uncertain Future (8/2/06)

...Even as a believer whose life is characterized by faith and obedience rather than sin, you can still displease God and walk for a time in the shadow of divine displeasure. The difference is that as his adopted child your salvation is assured and secured by the person and work of Christ. This does not mean that God will not punish. It does mean that rather than wrath that begins now and continues into eternity, as a child, you will receive discipline that leads to repentance and ultimately restoration....
